Thankful for...
by Elizabeth Albin, CCPL Circulation Services Manager

The month of November regularly focuses on giving thanks for people and things and we are reminded to pause and appreciate aspects of our life we often take for granted. When I sat down to write this article, I considered talking about your library’s new business database or the newest piece of art (thanks to The Library Foundation!), but I decided to go with the November thankful theme and visit with library patrons about why they’re thankful for Campbell County Libraries. I asked them “Why are you thankful for the public library in your life?” Here are their responses:

  • Mother of 2: “Where do I even start?! I am thankful for so many things at the library. I am thankful for a safe and inviting space for my kids. I am thankful for the years of knowledge the employees have. I am thankful for a diverse collection that can help anyone in our community. I am thankful for the friends I have gained through the library. I am thankful for the programs at the library and the joy I see on people’s faces.”
  • 17-year-old boy: “I am thankful for the great people who work there and the selection of books and movies they offer.”
  • Grandmother of 4: “The love and thankfulness I have for our library is immense. Through the eyes of the library, I have seen little tykes’ eyes light up with amazement. Adults search for answers to so many diverse topics and find information without having to pay or travel. I know of a lady who was able to find her birth mother with the help of a Campbell County librarian. So many people have found answers to their heritage by using the databases. We, as a county, are so fortunate to have this facility and staff.”
Homeschooling mother of 9: “I am so thankful the library provides many resources for homeschooling.”
  • Father of 3: “Our family is thankful for our public library because we are able to get new books each week. They know our kids personally and are always having different programs to keep things fun. It says something when the kids want to go to the library instead of hanging out with their dad...and I’m pretty awesome!”
  • 11-year-old girl: “I am thankful for the variety of different books!”
  • Former mayor: “I am thankful for the staff. They are so helpful when I am looking for any materials!”
  • Mother of 5: “As a homeschool mama, I am so very thankful that we have such a wonderful and easily accessible library! My children love going to the library and picking out books to read for fun while I can get school resources.”

The dedicated staff at your libraries in Gillette and Wright are so very happy to help our patrons every single day in so many ways. We are thankful for you, too!
