Money Monday: Estate Planning

Monday, October 19, 2020

Campbell County Public Library welcomes Michelle Vigil, UW Community Development Extension Educator, back to the library to teach Money Monday financial classes this fall and winter. Everyone faces the death of a family member sooner or later, and most are not well prepared for this eventuality. Don't miss this free opportunity to get started making the inevitable end-of-life decisions.

Making decisions about guardianship of dependents, care of elder family members, end-of-life issues, disposition of property, and related issues are much easier when you're not facing the emotions of a life-altering loss of a loved one.

Vigil will discuss a number of publications created with the guidance of Wyoming estate attorney Aaron Lyttle that are designed to help families with the difficult steps needed before and when a death occurs. The eleven estate planning publications are titled:
•Introduction to Estate Planning
•Estate Planning Checklist: Information to Assemble Before Consulting Your Attorney
•After a Death: What Steps are Needed?
•Wyoming Wills: Some Suggestions for Getting the Most from Estate Planning
•Death Certificates
•A Walk Through Probate
•The Personal Property Memorandum
•Guardianships and Conservatorships
•Advance Health Care Directives
•Durable Power of Attorney

Vigil will give a brief overview of each publication and answer any questions you might have but reminds us that “self-help documents are no replacement for proper legal advice. Each family situation is unique, and one should always use an attorney to make final preparation and draw up the final documents.”

Vigil is passionate about teaching others how to become financially literate and get the most out of their time, personal energy, and money. These classes will feature a different financial topic each month.
