Hazardous Household Waste

Hazardous household waste is free of charge for Campbell County Residents. It is accepted at the landfill at 04 North Landfill Road, Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Household hazardous waste can also be taken to the South Facility (CARE) at 909 Westover Road Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Accepted items include:
  • Household cleaners
  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Oil based paint, no latex paint*
  • Spray paint
  • Rechargeable batteries
  • Engine oil (15 gal. limit)
  • Lead acid batteries
*To dispose of latex paint, open the cans and allow the paint to dry completely. It can then be thrown into your garbage dumpster at home or brought to the landfill and disposed of with your household garbage. To speed up the drying process, waste paint hardener can be purchased at your local hardware store. Mixing kitty litter or ashes into the paint will hasten the drying time as well.
